Invest in Our Planet: Škoda Auto Volkswagen India generates 3800+ pledges in line with the theme of Earth Day 2023

The leadership team drives sustainability focus and reaffirms commitment to achieve Carbon neutrality by 2050

On Earth Day 2023, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) generated over 3800+ pledges for environmental sustainability, in a special event that was attended by officials from MOEFCC (Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change), Management team from CII-CESD (CII Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Development), dealer fraternity, supplier chain partners, along with Group employees. Reiterating its commitment to promoting sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint, the company also reaffirmed its objective of achieving carbon neutrality in line with Paris 2050's climate goals through a holistic approach encompassing global, corporate, and individual responsibility.

Through the campaign #IamINvested, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India aims to encourage individuals to contribute towards climate action and create a chain reaction by nominating their colleagues to join the movement. The campaign gained significant traction among Group employees and had a multiplier effect, with each pledge ambassador nominating two colleagues to join the initiative.

Commenting on the occasion, Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India said, “On Earth Day, we are focusing on three key areas: Energy & Decarbonisation, Waste & Circularity, and Healthy Lifestyle. Our Group's consistent efforts and steady progress in decarbonization, zero waste, water conservation, social responsibility, Biodiversity, and Compliance Resilience & Responsibility have helped us stay true to our environmental and sustainability goals. This year we take our efforts a notch higher with a focus on individual responsibility in addition to Global and Corporate responsibility for creating an environmental movement for climate protection.”

Recently, the group inaugurated one of the automotive industry’s largest solar-power rooftop at its Pune plant. After this expansion, the solar-power rooftop will cover up to 30 percent of the plant’s total energy consumption. This milestone came close on the heels of SAVWIPL’s Aurangabad facility switching to 100 percent Green Energy late last year.

ŠKODA AUTO Volkswagen India is certified as a Zero Waste to Landfill and Net Water Positive Operation. In addition, the company has received a Gold standard rating by DQS India in its Water Conservation efforts both within the manufacturing facilities in Aurangabad and Pune and beyond the fence.

As part of the ‘goTOzero' mission, the Volkswagen Group intends to be net carbon neutral by 2050. The Group is consistently focused on its carbon-neutrality goals across the entire global supply chain and product life cycle, including the expansion of renewable energies on an industrial scale.
