ISRO receives “Indian of the Year Award” in the ‘Outstanding Achievement’ category for the year 2023

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh has honored Team ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) in the 'Outstanding Achievement' category for the year 2023. Presented with “Indian of the Year Award”.

The award citation states that the award recognizes the remarkable contributions made by ISRO in pushing the boundaries of space exploration. The award citation reads, “The year 2023 will undoubtedly go down in the history books as a period when India’s space agency demonstrated unparalleled acumen and resilience in the face of challenges. “The culmination of ISRO’s achievements in 2023 was the first successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the unexplored south polar region of the Moon.”

In his brief remarks, he said that Chandrayaan-3 was not only indigenous, but it was a very cost-effective mission with a budget of about Rs 600 crore. He said that although there was never any dearth of talent in the country, the lack of enabling environment was filled under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. He said, “Due to the development of space technology, the general public of the country has been able to watch the launch of huge space programs like Chandrayaan-3 or Aditya. He said that more than 10,000 spectators, more than 1,000 media persons and a large number of common people had come to watch the Aditya launch and a similar number of people were present during the Moon landing of Chandrayaan-3.
