100 MW Raghnesda solar power station commissioned in Banaskatha district of Gujarat

SJVN Ltd has commissioned its 100 MW Raghnesda solar power station located in Gujarat's Banaskatha district, making it the second green power unit of the state-owned company to be commissioned this month.

According to a statement from the power ministry, the project will generate 252 million units of energy in the first year. The cumulative energy generation over 25 years is estimated at 5,805 million units.

Under the long-term power purchase agreement, the power produced by Raghnesda Solar Power Station will be supplied to Gujarat Energy Development Corporation Limited (GUVNL) for 25 years. With the addition of this project the installed capacity of SJVN has increased.

With the addition of this project, the installed capacity of SJVN has increased to 2,377 MW. This milestone marks the commissioning of SJVN's second solar project this month, after the 50 MW Gujrai Solar Power Station in Uttar Pradesh was commissioned on February 23, 2024.

SJVN had secured financing for the project from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation under the Global Action for Reconciling Economic Growth and Environmental Preservation (Green) programme, strengthening its dedication to green initiatives and responsible development.

The project will contribute significantly to the renewable energy goals of the state of Gujarat and will also contribute to promoting energy security in the region.
