AFMS, IIT-Delhi sign agreement for research in medical devices


The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) today (22 April 2024) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi for collaborative research and training. The MoU was signed by Lieutenant General Daljit Singh, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services, and Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi. The scope of this MoU includes carrying out research and innovation to develop novel medical devices and focus on solving health issues related to soldiers serving in different areas.

IIT Delhi has a strong biomedical research eco-system, which is ideal for providing the technical expertise required for research into the diverse medical challenges faced in the armed forces, including rehabilitation of amputees. Within the scope of this MoU, plans will also be made to develop faculty exchange programmes, joint academic activities and joint PhD programmes.

Speaking on the occasion, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services, Lieutenant General Daljit Singh informed that AFMS is dedicated to providing the highest level of medical care to soldiers and collaboration with institutions of national importance like IITs is an important step towards this commitment. . Professor Rangan Banerjee, Director, IIT Delhi, commented that this MoU holds immense potential for research and training beneficial to the nation and the armed forces.
