An agreement was signed between the Medical Army and IIT Hyderabad to promote innovation and research


The Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad for collaboration on research and training. The MoU was signed by Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services and Professor B S Murthy, Director, IIT Hyderabad.

The objective of this MoU is to promote innovation and research in the development of new medical devices and to expand specialized healthcare solutions for serving soldiers in various fields. Under this, IIT Hyderabad will provide the necessary technical expertise with its departments like Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics to deal with the diverse medical challenges faced by the armed forces.

The key areas of cooperation discussed as per the MoU include drone-based patient transportation, telemedicine innovation, application of artificial intelligence in the medical field and advancement in nanotechnology. Apart from these, the MoU will facilitate student exchange programmes, short-term courses for graduate students and faculty exchange activities.

Lt Gen Daljit Singh emphasised the commitment of the Armed Forces Medical Services to provide comprehensive medical care to soldiers both at the secondary and tertiary levels of care. He also mentioned the fact that partnering with an institute like IIT Hyderabad, known for its cutting edge technology, is an important step towards enhancing research and training, which will ultimately improve the quality of life of soldiers and their families.

Professor B S Murthy expressed IIT Hyderabad's commitment to address the problems raised by the armed forces. He said this would ensure quick and effective solutions to the challenges faced by them.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone in leveraging advanced technology and research to enhance the health and well-being of military personnel.
