Cabinet approves new rail-road bridge over river Ganga in Varanasi


Cabinet approves construction of Varanasi-Pt.Deen Dayal Upadhyaya multitracking  including a new Rail-cum-Road Bridge across Ganga River : To provide connectivity, facilitate ease of travelling, minimize logistics cost, reduce oil imports and lower CO2 emissions. This project represents a critical step for improving connectivity in the region and is designed to achieve several key objectives, including:

Reduction in Logistics Costs: The enhancement of this route is expected to lower logistics costs for freight, particularly for goods essential to the economy such as coal, cement, and foodgrains.

Environmental Benefits: The project aims to minimize oil imports and lower CO2 emissions, contributing to environmental sustainability.

Economic Growth and Job Creation: Through the construction of the new rail-cum-road bridge and additional railway lines, the project is expected to foster socio-economic development in the region by supporting the transport of an estimated 27.83 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA) of freight.

Financial Details: The estimated investment for this development is approximately Rs. 2,642 crore, indicating a notable financial commitment towards infrastructural progress.

The new infrastructure is positioned to not only benefit local communities but also enhance national connectivity, ultimately supporting India’s economic aspirations and environmental commitments.
