India conducts first flight test of long-range land attack cruise missile

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) of India successfully conducted the maiden flight test of the Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) on November 12, 2024. This significant event occurred off the coast of Odisha, specifically from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur.

The missile was launched from a mobile articulated launcher. The entire flight was meticulously monitored through a network of tracking systems, including radar, electro-optical sensors, and telemetry, to ensure comprehensive data collection throughout the missile’s trajectory. This missile system is categorized as a Mission Mode Project sanctioned by the Defence Acquisition Council, allowing it to be launched from both ground and naval platforms using a universal vertical launch module system. It marks a crucial step in enhancing India’s indigenous cruise missile capabilities, as noted by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh during his congratulatory remarks for the successful test.

The successful launchh of the LRLACM not only signifies advancements in India’s military technology but also reflects the country’s commitment to self-sufficiency in defense capabilities. The event was attended by senior scientists and representatives from the armed forces, highlighting the collaborative effort invested in achieving this milestone.
